The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement is hosting the Athens Run for Maud – Walk for Justice event this weekend to honor and celebrate the life of Ahmaud Arbery. Arbery was shot and killed by residents of a neighborhood where he was jogging.
The run and walk will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 8 am. Participants check-in in front of the Georgia Square Mall. It will be followed by an information session from 10 am until 11 am at the AADM bookstore inside mall. Organizers will discuss the passing of hate crimes legislation and ending the practice of citizen’s arrest. Proceeds will benefit the Ahmaud Arbery Foundation, which supports mental health resources for Black boys, and the AADM End School to Prison Pipeline program.
