The name of the woman found deceased in a wooded area on the University of Georgia campus was released Friday morning by university officials.

According to authorities, Laken Riley went running at Lake Herrick on Thursday morning. When she failed to return, a friend called UGA police shortly after 12:00 p.m. UGA police searched the area and discovered Riley's body about half an hour later.

University of Georgia Police Chief Jeffrey Clark gave little additional information at a press conference on Thursday night.

"The individual [Riley] was unconscious and not breathing, and had visible injuries," said Clark. "Officers immediately began rendering medical aid. Emergency medical responders determined that the individual was deceased upon their arrival."

Clark said that a suspect or suspects have not been identified.

"When you have a suspect that's on the loose, there's always a danger, but there's no immediate danger at this time," he said.

Clark said that the Athens-Clarke County Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are assisting with the investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the UGA Police Department at 706-542-2200.

Clark said that this incident is unrelated to another death on Wednesday, when a UGA student died in Brumby Hall.

The University of Georgia has cancelled classes today.
