Cedar Shoals, Clarke Central high schools, designated Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools

Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central high schools, among 276 schools in Georgia, have been designated as Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools for 2024, State School Superintendent Richard Woods announced on Tuesday. Cedar Shoals secured distinctions in five out of seven applicable categories, while Clarke Central was recognized in two categories.

Cedar Shoals earned titles such as AP Humanities and AP STEM School, along with AP Humanities Achievement and AP STEM Achievement School based on their 2023 AP exam performance. AP Humanities Schools must administer a minimum of 25 total exams across various subjects, while AP STEM Schools require at least five students to test in specific courses.

Clarke Central was named an AP STEM School and both schools retained their AP Access and Support School status for several consecutive years. This accolade recognizes schools where diverse student populations excel in AP exams.

AP exams, administered by the College Board, offer students college-level learning opportunities, with successful scores potentially earning college credit. Georgia's recognition of AP Honor Schools began in 2008.
