Senate minority leader Gloria Butler of Stone Mountain announces her retirement

On Tuesday, Senate minority leader Gloria Butler of Stone Mountain announced her retirement from office. Butler, 82, has served in the state senate for 25 years and in 2020 was the first Black woman elected to lead the Senate Democratic Caucus.
Now, the longest-serving legislative leader is House Minority Leader James Beverly. The Macon Democrat took over his caucus in 2020.
