Ciné to Host the Ciné Oscar Gala

Ciné

Ciné is hosting an Oscar Gala this weekend. The fundraiser will help with efforts to expand at the nonprofit, arthouse theatre. Pamela Kohn is Executive Director of Ciné, she says the gala is part of the Ciné 3.0 campaign.

“We’re going to have a third screen and a cinema projector that is basically a state-of-the-art cinema projector that’s called a DCP, a digital cinema projector, and that’s not a small-ticket item.” Kohn said.

The additional screen will allow Ciné to expand programming.

“Have film festivals, have repertory fair, have a lot more student showcases, and independent film making showcases, according to Kohn.”

Airee Edwards is a board member and chairman of the gala. She describes what attendees can expect.

“It’s just a great networking event, plus live music, we’ll have dancing, live auction, silent auction, photo booth, red carpet entry, everything,” Edwards remarked.

She says the event will have a distinctly Athens flair.

“It’s as if you’re going to the Oscars, Athens’ style,” Edwards added. “I didn’t want it to be some dress-up gala where people had to get all fancy. You know we didn’t want to do that, so we wanted to open it up to be, you could dress up as your favorite actor or actress who won an Oscar, or who didn’t win an Oscar, or you could dress up as a bunny rabbit. I don’t care, just show up. Just come to this event and show your love and appreciation for Ciné.

The gala is on Saturday, March 9th from 6 to 9 pm. For more information or tickets visit AthensCine.com/gala. Ciné is a media partner with WUGA.
