Students in the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership celebrated a perfect match rate into residency programs on Friday.

This is the second year in a row that students in the program celebrated a 100% match rate. The class of 2024 celebrated with friends and family as medical students across the United States waited until noon to open their letters of acceptance into a residency program.

Leading up to the event, students are interviewed and visit residency programs across the United States. Students rank their top choices, and the residency programs rank students as well. Matching programs like the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), as well as smaller ones like ophthalmology, use an algorithm to align the programs to students.

According to UGA, of the 50 students in the class of 2024, 58% of students are staying in the southern United States, and 54% are joining primary/core care programs. Thirteen will begin their residency careers in Georgia.
