The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government is seeking input from residents on the relocation of Fire Station #5. Athens-Clarke County will host a drop-in meeting at Fire Station #7 on Thursday, March 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m for residents to review the site selection criteria.
The county’s preferred new site would be near the intersection of Old Lexington and Morton Road and would put more residents within 2.5 miles of a fire station. In February, Athens-Clarke County Fire Chief Nate Moss said this location would improve response times and prevent a large overlap in service.
Last November, residents in the area opposed the proposed location, stating concerns about traffic, noise and quality of life. They offered alternate locations, but those were ultimately struck down by the Mayor and Commission.
