This week is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. Those encouraging citizens to be prepared include President Joe Biden, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration,or NOAA, and countless weather experts. Pam Knox is an Agricultural Climatologist in the University of Georgia Extension.
She says in addition to having enough food, water, and other supplies for a few days, you also need a plan to keep everyone together. She also recommends a keeping list of valuables in case they are lost or damaged during the storm.

Knox says Athens can see effects from hurricanes including heavy winds and rain. Experts expect more than 20 named storms this year.
