Avid Bookshop

A River Runs Through It is considered a literary classic, but how much do you know about its author? Norman Maclean was a legendary professor of English at the University of Chicago. He was also the mentor of Rebecca McCarthy, an Athens-based writer who recently published Maclean’s biography. WUGA’s Emma Auer sat down to speak with McCarthy about her book, Norman Maclean: A Life of Letters and Rivers.

Emma Auer is an award-winning reporter who joined WUGA as a full-time producer in 2024. She is also a graduate student in UGA's Romance Languages Department, studying French and Spanish. She covers the breadth of Northeast Georgia stories, from Athens City Hall to Winterville farmers' markets. Emma's work has also been heard on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
