Less than a week remains for area artists interested in participating in Art Decko 2024. The Lyndon House Arts Center and the Athens Downtown Development Authority, or ADDA, announced the third round of Art Decko, a public art project. The project promotes creativity in unexpected places, specifically in the College Avenue Deck stairwell. Didi Dunphy is Program and facilities Supervisor at the Lyndon House.
“A Call for Artists, one of my favorite things to do, which is bring in artists on a public project and pay them for their efforts,” Dunphy said.
The first round of Art Decko featured work designed by students at local schools. The second installment featured murals by nine local artists. Eight local artists will be selected for this installation.
“Artists are invited to submit a design for a 4’ by 8’ mural to be displayed in the stairwell,” according to Dunphy. “It’s sort of a vertical gallery, per se. A stipend of $1,100 will be paid to each artist, $500 when selected and $600 when the mural is completed.”
She says the artists will also be able to take advantage of accommodation at the Lyndon House.
“The selection artists will awarded a three-month studio membership at the Lyndon House Arts Center to work on their mural panel as needed.”
Ark Decko was launched over a decade ago. Submissions must be entered by 11:59 pm on June 2,2024.
