Mayor and Commission to consider resolution against gun and gang violence

WGAU

Recent murders have led the mayor and commission to consider adopting a 3-page resolution against gang violence. They will discuss the resolution at a regularly scheduled meeting tonight.

3-year old Kyron Zarco was killed in his home in March, and 25-year-old Nigel Turner was murdered in April.

If adopted, the resolution would make it a priority of the county government to invest in youth development, address the root causes of poverty, and provide affordable housing to families. It would also prioritize reducing the number of guns available to teens.

Like all county resolutions, it does not create policy or provide funding for the priorities it lists.

The resolution also declares June 18th as Kyron Zarco Day, which will celebrate Kyron’s life as well as the lives of others lost to gun violence.
