As early voting draws to a close this week, voters in the Board of Education's 2nd District seem to be taking a pass on the race.
As of Wednesday morning, just 20 people had voted early or returned their absentee ballots. By Wednesday afternoon, that number had nearly doubled to 39 voters, still less than 1% of the district's registered voters.
The runoff pits challenger Mary Bagby against incumbent Claudia Butts. Butts won the May 21 election by a margin of 20 votes, 319-299. A third challenger Kirrena Gallagher came in third, with 275 votes.
Early voting is being offered at two locations, the downtown elections office and the Miriam Moore Community Center. Early voting closes at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Election day is June 18.
