Athens’ Juneteenth celebration to highlight history and liberation

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people across the US South were freed. Mokah Jasmine Johnson is the co-founder and president of the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement, which co-hosts Athens’ Juneteenth Celebration today on College Square from 11 am to 3 pm. She sat down with WUGA’s Alexia Ridley to speak about Juneteenth and what Athenians can expect from today’s event.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
