Young Black Girls Shine at Athens' Inaugural Miss Juneteenth Pageant, fostering confidence

Athens hosted its inaugural Miss Juneteenth pageant at the Morton Theater, celebrating 17 young Black girls aged 5 to 13. Directed by Shawanna Lay, the event aimed beyond beauty, fostering sisterhood, friendships, and confidence among participants. Reagan Jones, a 10-year-old from Oglethorpe Ave. Elementary, claimed the crown with a standout step routine, showcasing her confidence and captivating the audience.

Emma Auer is an award-winning reporter who joined WUGA as a full-time producer in 2024. She is also a graduate student in UGA's Romance Languages Department, studying French and Spanish. She covers the breadth of Northeast Georgia stories, from Athens City Hall to Winterville farmers' markets. Emma's work has also been heard on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
