Inaugural Athens Film Festival debuts movies tonight

Still from the Athens Film Festival.
Still from the Athens Film Festival.

The inaugural Athens Film Festival will kick off Thursday night and continue until Saturday.

More than 80 films will be shown in four different locations across Athens over the next several days. The Athens Film Festival was organized by UGA alumni and will showcase films by local artists, including Southeast Emmy winning filmmaker Lauren Musgrove.

Lora Hogan, who helped organize the festival, says the participants share a love of the Classic City.

“They just want to see everyone else thrive and succeed, and lift each other up, and I think that is a huge unique experience, and it’s beautiful and they believe in Athens, and they think it’s this cool funky city that we are…”

The first film screening begins at 7:15 pm on Thursday night.
