“High Expectations, no excuses:” Superintendent Robbie Hooker on the new school year

School is officially back in session. Students around Athens donned their backpacks and sharpened their pencils on August 1st this year. WUGA’s Alexia Ridley sat down with Dr. Robbie Hooker, the Superintendent of Clarke County School District, to discuss the latest updates in local education.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
Emma Auer is an award-winning reporter who joined WUGA as a full-time producer in 2024. She is also a graduate student in UGA's Romance Languages Department, studying French and Spanish. She covers the breadth of Northeast Georgia stories, from Athens City Hall to Winterville farmers' markets. Emma's work has also been heard on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
