Georgia Schools Could Use Improvement, According to Study

School is back in session for millions of students around the nation, with classes in Clarke County schools getting underway on August first. A recent report took a look at the best school systems in the country. Cassandra Happe is an analyst with the personal finance website WalletHub, which conducted the study. More than 30 factors were considered in compiling the list.

“We looked at the 50 states and the District of Columbia and we compared them across a total of 32 metrics,” Happe said. “Those metrics can be grouped into two key categories which are quality and safety.”

She said those were then broken down into more specific measures.

“This included metrics that measured academic performance, class sizes, instructor credentials, safety measures, graduation rates, standardized testing scores, as well as the presence of top ranked public schools in each state.”

Unfortunately, Georgia ranked 35 on the list, but Happe said the state did have some bright spots.

“The state did very well when it came to having certain policies in place to help their students, specifically when it came to the existence of digital learning plans, as well as having school safety audit requirements,” according to Happe. “Which are two key components in that safety category.”
