Athens-Clarke Animal Services still needs foster homes for animals. The shelter recently reached maximum capacity, with more than a dozen dogs having been placed into crates. Foster coordinator Tiffany Mitcham says the shelter provides all the necessities for willing families.
“For the foster program, it actually really helps us out a lot,” according to Mitcham. “We do provide everything that they need, so we try to give them a crate, we have the leash, there’s food donated for their foster. If they need medical care, anything like that, we try to make sure that’s completely covered.”
Mitcham says they want to make it easy for foster homes to care for the animals.
“We ask that they just love them, take care of them. We have indoor only dogs, things like that.”
Fosters provide temporary homes for the animals, at no cost to the participants.
“With our foster homes, it’s really getting good space for shelter dogs who come here. Our fosters are really good about advertising them and marketing them, and hopefully finding good homes and getting them adopted.”
Those homes also mean the shelter is able to save more animals.
“With all the help from our fosters we’re able to have more space where we don’t have to euthanize because we’re able to accommodate for the strays that come in,” Mitcham said.
