The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission will meet tonight at City Hall to discuss several ongoing projects.
After tonight’s meeting, Athens’ eastside may be one step closer to getting its own library. The Mayor and Commission are set to debate the approval of a proposed site for the library, 1030 Barnett Shoals Road.
If the site is approved, the county will move to the next step in the design process. The library is scheduled for completion within the next two years.
Also up for debate tonight is whether to allocate over half a million dollars to Athens-Clarke County Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center. The amount would be used to purchase technology for full-time monitoring of a network of the city’s cameras. If funding is approved, the center will be located within the police department. The center’s construction was expedited after the murder of Laken Riley in late February.
