Authorities Investigating Shooting Suspect’s Links to Georgia High School

4:00 p.m. Update:

Authorities are still trying to determine how a shooting suspect is connected to Apalachee High School.

Barrow County sheriff’s deputies apprehended the suspect shortly after responding to reports of an active shooter. CNN is reporting the gunman may be a 14-year-old boy.

At least four people were killed and several others injured in the shooting. Two victims in the incident are reportedly being treated at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a school shooting with injuries in Winder. According to a release, authorities are on the scene at Apalachee High School located at 940 Haymon Road.

At approximately 10:23 a.m., officers from multiple law enforcement agencies and Fire/EMS personnel were dispatched to the high school in reference to a reported active shooting. One suspect is in custody. Casualties have been reported, but details on the number or their conditions are not available at this time.

Governor Brian Kemp issued a statement regarding the shooting:

I have directed all available state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School and urge all Georgians to join my family in praying for the safety of those in our classrooms, both in Barrow County and across the state. We will continue to work with local, state, and federal partners as we gather information and further respond to this situation.
