As Athens and the rest of the state feel the effects of Hurricane Helene state and local agencies are working to make sure residents can keep aware of conditions and find available resources. Jeff Montgomery is the communications director for the Athens-Clarke County Government. He says members of the community can visit the ACC website for information on a wide range of issues regarding the storm.
“But similar to what we’ve done during past hurricane situations here, Florence and Irma and others, we decided to set up a specific page on our website to really try to put as many resources as possible in one place so that people can get that information,” according to Montgomery.
Montgomery says the website and the page dedicated to Helene updates provide a central source of information for those seeking assistance.
“We also produced earlier this year, a flyer. It’s kind of an urgent issues and who to call, it’s kind of a graphical representation of if you see some flooding in an area or if you see a traffic signal issue. Sort of who to call whether it’s during a storm or other times, but obviously that becomes a very useful item for people right around now.”
He also thanked the Athens-Clarke County staff who were working during the storm.
“We’ve got a lot of staff who will be on for 24 hours and taking care of issues.”
