U.S. District Judge Wood to deliver Commencement address

Undergraduate students celebrate as fireworks explode over the scoreboard display during the 2024 Spring Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony.

Lisa Godbey Wood, United States District Judge for the Southern District of Georgia and a 1990 graduate of the UGA School of Law, will deliver the undergraduate Commencement address on December 13 at Stegeman Coliseum. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m., followed by the graduate ceremony at 2:30 p.m.

John Anthony Maltese, Associate Dean of the School of Public and International Affairs, will address graduate students. Wood, a First Honor Graduate of UGA, has held various prestigious roles, including United States Attorney and Judge. She recently served on the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review. Maltese, a distinguished educator since 1989, is known for his contributions to the political science field and has received multiple awards for his teaching and service.

Mary Ryan Howarth is a recent graduate from the University of Georgia. She started as an intern at WUGA and quickly became a part-time reporter and producer. She also contributes to Athens News Matters and the Georgia Health Report. Some of Mary Ryan's interests include reading, arts and crafts, and running her podcast with her mom, HowARTh Gallery Gossip.
