The Athens-Clarke County Police Department in conjunction with Governor’s Office of Highway Safety PATEN (Piedmont Area Traffic Enforcement network), will conduct vehicle checkpoints on Friday, October 18th. Department policy calls for the checkpoints to be publicized via social media and press releases. Specific locations will not be announced, but the results of the checkpoints will be released after the operation. Drivers will receive an educational flyer with local statistics, and it will address why the department conducts checkpoints.
“This year, we are proud to report a 13 percent decrease in traffic crashes, reflecting the efforts of drivers who prioritize safety. This achievement shows that collective responsibility on the road truly makes a difference,” said Sergeant Vincent Schill, a member of the ACCPD Traffic Unit and organizer of the vehicle checkpoints. “We want to keep up the momentum by asking drivers not to drink and drive, stay focused, avoid distractions, and drive safely to protect themselves and others.”
More information is available at the ACCPD’s transparency website.
