QuikTrip Donates $750,000 to Area Law Enforcement Foundations

The foundations supporting the Athens-Clarke County Police Department and Oconee County Sheriff's Office are receiving a significant contribution from QuikTrip.

The convenience and gas retailer is awarding $750,000 to the organizations.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Foundation will receive $500,000 to support the Department’s Real-Time Crime Center operations, and the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Foundation will receive $250,000 to update its communications equipment.

The Oklahoma-based QuikTrip donates five percent of net profits to charitable organizations in the communities where stores are located.

The funds will support public safety efforts to increase safety and strengthen communities.

“QuikTrip’s generous support of the Athens-Clarke Police Foundation will allow us to invest in new public safety initiatives that will have a lasting impact on our community,” said Chief Jerry Saulters, Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

Oconee County Sheriff Hale added, “These funds will help us strengthen existing efforts and develop new strategies to keep our residents safe. We look forward to continuing this partnership with QuikTrip.”

Representative Houston Gaines said he hopes the donation will draw attention to the $75 million statewide program.

“These grants from QuikTrip represent one of the largest donations to law enforcement foundations in the state using the LESS Crimes Tax Credit,” said Gaines, “legislation that I was proud to carry two years ago. It’s been signed into law that allows individuals and corporations to donate a portion of their state income tax liability to support local law enforcement agencies. We hope QuikTrip’s donation will raise awareness about this program and encourage other individuals and corporations to utilize this tool to provide resources for our law enforcement officers.
