A local playwright will host a premiere reading on Friday of her recent play, a semi-fictional account of overcoming domestic violence.
(k)Night in Armor is based off of the playwright Lora Hogan’s life, and will premiere Friday at 7 pm at the Marigold Auditorium in Winterville. Hogan says that the play is about more than abuse itself.
“It is about friendship, it is about overcoming odds. It is about the difficult situations we find ourselves in when we feel we are hopeless and have no way out. Somehow you found within you with the help of others, to find freedom and escape.”
Audience members will be asked to make a donation, and all proceeds will go to Project Safe, a nonprofit serving survivors of intimate partner violence in Athens.
“I’ve personally worked with ProjectSafe. We are extremely lucky to have such a wonderful resource in our community.”
Hogan warns that gun violence will be mentioned during the reading, but no guns or representations of guns will be used. She adds that audience members have the unique opportunity of providing feedback during a Q&A after the reading
