University of Georgia students in a political science-communications hybrid course heard career advice from Robert Jimison, a New York Times correspondent, Tuesday morning.
Robert Jimison, a Macon, Georgia native, is a Washington correspondent for the New York Times. A group of about 50 students in the Introduction to Applied Politics class peppered him with questions about his career on Tuesday. He discussed topics ranging from work-life balance to how he counters distrust in the mainstream media.
Shyneria is a student in the Applied Politics program. She says she gained a lot of advice as a young journalist.
“Someone asked him about separating his personal life with political reporting. He tries to be as objective as possible, and he self-edits a lot.”
The Applied Politics program at the University of Georgia is offered to students in the School of Public and International Affairs and the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at UGA, and aims to give students practical applications related to political science theory.
Dr. Audrey Haynes, an associate professor of political science at UGA, is the director of the Applied Politics program and moderated Jimison’s visit Tuesday.
