Senate Bill 63 almost sounded the death knell for a local nonprofit called the Athens Area Court Watch Project. The volunteer organization pays low-level cash bails for people in the Clarke County Jail. The bill, which was set to take effect July 1st, would have limited certain organizations from paying the bails of more than three people.

The nonprofit, however, filed a lawsuit that paused the portion of the bill limiting cash bails. John Vodicka is the co-coordinator of the Athens Area Court Watch Project. He sat down with WUGA's Alexia Ridley to discuss the latest updates in the lawsuit, and what the group has done in the past few months.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
