Online registration for volunteers for Athens-Clarke County’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is now open. On Monday, January 20, 2025, over 30 community organizations, government agencies, cemeteries, and schools will host volunteer service projects. Athenians are invited to honor Dr. King’s legacy by observing the holiday as “A Day On and Not a Day Off.”
The event will kick off at the Lay Park Gymnasium, located at 297 Hoyt Street, at 8:30 am. Visit www.accgov.com/mlkday, for more information or to register. Registration will close on Friday, January 17.
In 1994, Congress made the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday an official day of service.
