ACCPD and Safe Kids Athens will be working together in hosting an event called the Child Safety Seat Check to ensure parents and guardians know how to install car seats. This event will be held on March 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Beech Haven Baptist Church.
In the most recent numbers from the Department of Transportation, in 2022, an estimated 429 children were injured every day in traffic crashes in the United States.
Safe Kids Athens helps reduce these incidents by working with the community to keep children safe from preventable injuries.
“Car seat safety and the correct installation is essential to prevent child injuries while driving,” says Sgt. Bob Schulte. “ACCPD, along with Safe Kids Athens, want to ensure that all parents and guardians know the proper way to install car seats, reducing the risk of injuries in the vehicle.”
There have been three fatal accidents since the start of 2025, according to the ACCPD Transparency Hub.
