The Distraction Free Education Act, which is House Bill 340, is now sitting with the State Senate after passage by the Georgia House. It prohibits public schools students in grades K-8 from accessing personal electronic devices including, but not limited to, smartphones, headphones, tablets, and smartwatches.

Each school system and public school would be required to adopt policies and procedures that ensure the law is being followed. This includes having methods for storing devices, facilitating any necessary communications between parents and students, and ensuring there are consequences for violations.

The bill does not apply to private schools or to public high school students.
