Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed a slate of healthcare legislation into law Thursday afternoon. Among the priorities, House Bill 428 which focuses on protecting access to IVF procedures and House Bill 94 which requires health benefit coverage to preserve fertility when medically necessary treatments could cause infertility.
“You know from the moment that I first took office, even when I was campaigning, I was talking about promoting quality, affordable health care to all Georgians no matter their zip code,” according to Kemp. “Quite honestly we rejected the one size fits none government tun approach to health care like many advocate for, instead we embraced innovative Georgia-centric that enable more people to get on private insurance that better meets there needs.”
Additional legislation transferred oversight of drug abuse treatment and education programs, as well as community living arrangements in adult residential mental health programs from DCH [Department of Community Health] to the Department of Behavioral health and Developmental Disabilities.]
“We’ve taken all those steps because protecting the health and well-being of Georgians isn’t something we take lightly, and I’m proud to stand here with so many men and women who carry out that mission every single day.”
Kemp also increased funding for the rural maternal health program to expand coverage to mothers in more counties in the state.
