The University of Georgia is celebrating nearly 8,800 new graduates during its Spring Commencement ceremonies. The undergraduate ceremony will take place on Friday evening at 7:30 in Sanford Stadium. Jarryd Wallace, a UGA alumnus and four-time Paralympian will give the address. One of those new graduates is WUGA’s producer/reporter Mary Ryan Howarth.
“I was very like nervous and just thinking oh my gosh, what am I going to do after graduation, I have no idea,” Howarth said. “Especially for Grady and being a journalism student, finding a job is very much like, you just have to kind of figure it out as it goes. But after talking to you, and other people that have been doing this for so long, I felt way more reassured that I don’t need to have it all figured out right now.”
Though the Grady journalism grad will stay in Athens for a few months, she’s already thinking of the events she will miss when she leaves the Classic City.
“I’ve gotten to love and really appreciate the culture that we have here with music, festivals, but also just like the food. I’ve just loved being able to explore downtown Athens and that has been something I’m definitely going to miss.”
The graduate commencement ceremony was held on Thursday, May 8 in Stegman Coliseum. Dr. Paige Carmichael, a distinguished professor of veterinary medicine, delivered the keynote address.
