UGA issues safety update after gunshot heard

The University of Georgia has issued a special safety update after a Clarke County Deputy reported hearing a gunshot in the area of East Washington Street and North Thomas Street. Deputies reported seeing two individuals, a male and female fleeing the area. An Athens-Clarke County Police Officer stated the male possibly had a handgun under his sweatshirt. No injuries were reported. UGA police are urging residents to be cautious of their surroundings.

The incident happened around 10:40 on Wednesday morning. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the ACCPD or the UGA Police Department.
