Georgia drivers can expect to catch a break at the pump soon. On Friday, Governor Brian Kemp suspended the state’s gas tax for 60 days. The move comes as gas prices in Georgia are averaging nearly $3.80 per gallon. The suspension means motorists will save 33 cents per gallon for gas and 37 cents per gallon on diesel.
“Since 2021 we have now enacted four income tax refunds, the largest income tax cut in state history, targeted suspensions of the state gas tax, four separate times and have now done two rounds of property tax relief,” Kemp said. “All told, that is over $11 billion of taxpayers' money that we have put back in their pocket.”
Kemp also signed House Bill 1000 into law. That legislation means the state’s taxpayers will be receiving rebates this year.
“That money isn’t just a number, it represents help with groceries, rent, bills, clothes for your kids and other needs facing Georgia families. It’s meaningful relief for working Georgians at a time when they really need it.”
Georgia residents who have filed taxes for the past two years will be getting $250 back for single filers, $375 for heads of households, and $500 for couples.
