During tonight's meeting, the Athens Clarke County commissioners are scheduled to vote on a plan that would allow a private developer to construct a new parking deck on Downtown public property.
In an email to neighborhood groups in her district, District Three Commissioner Melissa Link said that Landmark Properties intends to build the deck behind the Classic Center, enabling them to construct more student housing. She also said the "deck would not be subject to Planning Commission review & would be exempt from existing Downton design guidelines."
Other items on the agenda tonight include the extension of "Fare Free" transit services for 2021, a potential increase on the hotel/motel excise tax, and a resolution to authorize the Tax Commissioner to waive interest or penalties due on unpaid taxes.
