Athens Nonprofit Cultivating a Lifetime of Legacy Hosting Brunch for Mentors/Community Members

The Athens-based mentor program, Cultivating a Lifetime of Legacy is hosting its first-ever brunch with the mentors. The nonprofit was founded in 2012 out of an earlier organization. Kimberly Bennett is Executive Director.

“It’s an event that we wanted to bring together mentors in the community that are with any organization, so that they can learn from each other, discuss ways they are having trouble connecting with they’re mentee,” Bennett said.

She hopes to make gathering like the brunch a quarterly occurrence.

Bennett wants the gathering to focus on building relationships, self-care while mentoring and connecting with others.

Cultivating works with youth and young adults. Cassandra Stephens is an example of one of Cultivating’s success stories. The former mentee is now community outreach coordinator with the organization.

“We want people to know about this event, that it’s an introduction,” according to Stephens. “We want to bring awareness, we want to say thank you, first and foremost, to all the mentors that are coming out or anybody that’s not necessarily in a nonprofit, but a mother, a grandmother, anybody that’s very supportive, that doesn’t give up. Also to collaborate together and know that we can do this jointly.”

The free brunch is open to anyone in the community, those who may be interested in learning about mentoring, those who already are mentors and anyone who supports them. It takes place Saturday, January 25, from 12 until 3 pm at firehouse number 2 on Prince Ave.
