Athens StoryCorps: Odella and Earnest Thompson

Earnest Thompson talks with his wife of 51 years, Odella. Earnest grew up in Charleston, South Carolina with his mother and his sister Earnestine. Even though his family was poor, Earnest says his mother always managed to provide and in this story, he recounts the lengths she would go to in order to ensure Earnest grew up happy. StoryCorps Athens stories were recorded locally at the StoryCorps mobile booth at the Athens-Clarke County Library in the fall of 2018. StoryCorps is part of a national initiative to record and preserve the stories of everyday people.
