Georgia’s teacher pension budget is on a $100 billion “financial roll” according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
After a difficult year of pandemic struggles, the Teacher’s Retirement System of Georgia which covers about 400,000 retired public school, university and technical college educators reported a 58% jump from stocks and other investments.
This resulted in a big improvement of about 92% in assets needed to pay future benefits.
Because the system is currently flushed with cash, state lawmakers are unlikely to make significant changes to it; according to Chuck Martin, a Republican from Alpharetta, and Chairman of the Georgia House Higher Education committee.
