Thousands of new voters have registered in Georgia to vote in next month’s senate runoff elections.
About 75,000 new voters registered in Georgia before the December 7th deadline. Those are voters who couldn’t vote in November's Presidential election but will be able to vote in the two Senate runoffs on January 5th.
According to the AJC, these new voters are predominantly non-white, with Hispanic and Asian voters registering at a higher rate than their share of the electorate.
Speaking to Fox and Friends on Monday, Senator Perdue responded to this rise in newly registered voters, specifically those who also applied for absentee ballots.
“We are trying in the court to make sure that we segregate all the people who registered after the November election and have gotten an absentee ballot. We want those treated as a provisional ballot to make sure."
Early voting for that January 5th runoff begun on Monday, and turnout was close to one million votes after just three days of early voting.
