State of Georgia to Fund Childcare With COVID-19 Relief Money

Georgia is planning to use $95 million of COVID-19 relief money to pay for childcare.

On Monday, The state Department of Early Care and Learning, (or DECAL)  announced that $95 million of federal aid will be used to pay all costs of childcare, but only for those enrolled in a program that subsidizes care for lower-income families, according to the Associated Press.

DECAL officials say this money is an effort to help families get back to work after the economic blow from the pandemic, which could benefit up to  50,000 children. This represents roughly 8% of children under the age of five in Georgia and less than 2% of those under the age of 18.
