Athens News Matters for April 19, 2023

Today on Athens News Matters, every five years the federal Farm Bill comes up for renewal, and it’s common to hear a lot of debate about the SNAP emergency food assistance program. But how much does the average person really know about the program, who it supports, and how? To answer some of these questions, WUGA Health Desk contributor Lauren Baggett sat down with UGA researcher Grace Bagwell Adams to break down facts versus myth.

Athens Twilight, the yearly Cycling Race and Festival is happening this weekend, WUGA's Colin Vereen spoke with Gene Dixon, Founder and Organizer of the Twilight Criterium and Mary Sigalas of Jazz Athens GA, about Twilight's history and what we have to look forward to at this year's event.

Martin Matheny is WUGA's Program Director and a host and producer of our local news program 'Athens News Matters.' He started at WUGA in 2012 as a part-time classical music host and still hosts WUGA's longest-running local program 'Night Music' which is heard on WUGA and GPB Classical. He lives in Normaltown with his wife, Shaye and dog, Murphy.
