Athens-Clarke County becomes 2nd county in state to offer bilingual ballot option

The last day to vote in this year’s consequential election is November 5th. An initiative led by local advocates and election officials will allow Athens-Clarke County voters to choose a ballot in either Spanish or English. WUGA’s Aimee Marcoux reports on why this initiative is so surprising.

An explanation of this year’s ballot measures

As Georgia voters turn out in record numbers across the state during early voting to elect their national, state and local leaders, they will also have to consider 3 statewide measures on the ballot. Georgia residents will be asked to decide 2 amendments and a referendum. For many voters, the language seems cumbersome and not necessarily easy to grasp. WUGA’s Alexia Ridley is joined by attorney and Emory professor Matt Roessing to help explain these questions.

The Cottage to celebrate 50 years with open house

The Cottage Sexual Assault Center and Children’s Advocacy Center is a nonprofit serving several Northeast Georgia counties. It will host an open house to celebrate its 50th anniversary on Thursday, November 7th, at 3019 Lexington Road in Athens, from 4 to 7 pm. WUGA’s Alexia Ridley sat down with Linnea Ionno, Executive Director of the Cottage, earlier this week to discuss the event. Here’s that conversation.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
