Commissioner Carol Myers breaks down county’s energy goals as PSC meetings approach

Every three years, utility companies must get an Integrated Resource Plan approved by Georgia’s Public Service Commission. These plans outline utility companies’ energy portfolios and how much customers will be charged.

A group of local governments plans to intervene during the approval process for Georgia Power’s next IRP—including Athens-Clarke County. At Tuesday night’s agenda setting meeting, the ACC Commission discussed endorsing the goals of the Coalition of Local Governments as the IRP approval process approaches this Spring.

Commissioner Carol Myers represents the 8th District in Athens-Clarke County. She sat down with WUGA’s Emma Auer to discuss her stance on the county’s energy goals.

How the public has impacted ACC's transit plan

The plan guiding Athens-Clarke County’s public transportation system for the next five years will be up for approval by the Commission beginning in April, and the public has the opportunity to weigh in.

Randy Brown is the Assistant Director of Public Transportation in Athens-Clarke County. WUGA’s Alexia Ridley sat down with him to discuss the Transit Development Plan and how public transportation may change in the coming years.

Federal funding changes plunge Georgia researchers into uncertainty

Since taking office in January, President Donald Trump has ordered an end to federal funding of certain research programs. Though these policies have been paused by courts, Georgia institutions have still been affected. WUGA’s Emma Auer sat down with Rebecca Grapevine, a reporter based out of Atlanta for Healthbeat, to discuss her reporting on Georgia-based research projects. Here’s their conversation from this week’s Georgia Health Report.
