You hear Museum Minute every week on WUGA, but where does it come from and how did it start? Dreamed up by Michael Lachowski at the Georgia Museum, the first 90-second program aired in February 2022, and new ones have aired almost every week since then. The museum and W U G A are both part of the University of Georgia, and they produce the show together — writing, editing, and recording scripts that focus on artists, exhibitions, and programs throughout the Athens area. Those subjects don’t have to be at the museum or on campus, but they do have to relate to museums or to art you can see locally.
At the time we wrote this script, one hundred twenty-five different Museum Minutes had aired, covering subjects from the Carter Coile Country Doctors Museum to the Iron Horse to public art. Athens musician and designer Winston Parker wrote the music that opens and closes the micro-show, letting you know that a burst of knowledge is heading your way. Have an idea for a Museum Minute?
