Georgia Unemployment was down for the month of June and the state also set records for employed residents, labor force and jobs. Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says while the national unemployment rate was up slightly in June, Georgia continues to see that number drop.
“Well first of all, if you take a look at the job growth over the last seven years that we’ve seen here in Georgia, and because of the fact Georgia has become such a great place to live and work; not only are the individuals who are growing up here in Georgia finding the jobs they need, but also we’re attracting a lot of individuals from other states,” according to Butler.
In June, Georgia hit a record high 4.94 million employed residents. That number was up by 15,345 over the month and by more than 123,452 since last June.
“That’s why we have seen a fairly large uptick in individuals moving to the state of Georgia. As a matter of fact, just this last month we saw over 10-thousand people enter into our workforce. A lot those are going to be in-migration from other states.”
Butler says jobs are up in several different areas.
“We’re seeing a lot of diverse growth in Georgia. We’ve seen growth in most categories, and even in the areas where we’ve seen a slight dip it’s very slight, but when you’re talking in the growth areas, you’re talking anywhere from 1,000 jobs a month to almost 3,000 jobs over the month.”
Most of those job gains came in the professional business services; other services; and the trade, transportation, and utilities industry.
Georgia’s June unemployment rate was 4.1 percent.
