President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the race for the Democratic nomination has Democrats rallying around Vice President Kamala Harris, District 5 Board of Education member Tim Denson, who chairs the Athens-Clarke County Democrats, weighed in on that choice.

First and foremost, I think President Biden has done a pretty remarkable job as president and hasn't gotten the credit that he really deserves," Denson said. "At the same time, I think this just builds upon his his legacy of being a very selfless public servant and doing what's best for the country."

Denson says he supports Harris as Biden's successor.

"I think that Democrats are going to be - are already - lining up behind Vice President Harris and will continue to do so. I think she's going to be a fantastic candidate and a fantastic President, and I honestly think that this is going to give the the jolt of energy and momentum that Democrats needed to win in November."

President Biden announced his decision to drop out of the race in a letter on Sunday, endorsing Harris as his replacement. The Democratic Party has been divided since Biden's debate performance on June 27th, which left many questioning his ability to defeat Republican Donald Trump in November.
