Clarke County School District promotes two interim principals to full-time positions

The Clarke County School District announced that Derrick Maxwell, interim principal at Clarke Middle School, and April Braswell, interim principal at Coile Middle School have been named as full time principals at their respective schools, effective immediately.

The search for these middle schools' principals included input from the schools’ local school governance teams and families, an application period, and candidate interviews. Dr. Robbie Hooker, CCSD Superintendent, announced their appointment after approval from the Board of Education.

Maxwell is in his 23rd year of education and is currently working towards his Doctorate degree in Education Leadership from Valdosta State University. He served as principal in Whit Davis Elementary, Cedar Shoals High School, Commerce Middel School, and Winder-Barrow High School.

“I am beyond excited and deeply honored to be chosen as the principal of Clarke Middle School, and I look forward to continuing the outstanding work alongside our wonderful staff,” said Maxwell.

Braswell is also in her 23rd year in education and is a current candidate for a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Georgia College. She spent 11 years teaching math in Walton County. Then she returned to CCSD in 2015 to serve as assistant principal in Coile Middle School and then joined Whitehead Road Elementary in 2019 as principal.

“I am excited to continue leading and growing this wonderful school community,” said Ms. Braswell. “Our motto at Coile, ‘Cougars Lead, Others Follow,’ speaks to the heart of what makes Coile special.”
