2017 Peabody Awards Ceremony on PBS, FUSION

Peabody Awards

Winners for the 2017 Peabody Awards were celebrated in New York during a gala in May. But interested viewers will have the chance to see the ceremony Friday night.  The event will be televised nationally on PBS. It will also be shown on the cable channel FUSION. Director Jeffery Jones says the ceremony is special.

"It's such an amazing ceremony in that everybody in the room is a winner," Jones said. "It's across entertainment winners, documentary, and news and radio. It's really kind of a special evening because there's the familiar celebrity type of faces; and that bright light of celebrity also gets to be shown on the projects you haven't heard of, the news folks, the documentary."

Jones says all the winners have something in common.

"All of them, according to the mandate of the Peabody, are stories that matter, that is programming that we feel like serves us well as citizens."

Rashida Jones hosted this year's ceremony, which will air at 9 pm on Georgia Public Broadcasting and FUSION.
