Attorney Joining Other Candidates in 2018 Athens-Clarke Races

ACC Government

Athens attorney Lisa Lott has announced her intention to run as a candidate for the May 2018 election for Judge of Superior Court in Athens-Clarke and Oconee Counties. Chief Judge David Sweat, who is currently in the office, announced his retirement from the bench earlier this year. Lott has worked in the Western Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office since 2000.

Others running in 2018 include: Ovita Thornton, a four-term member of  the Clarke County School Board, who has announced she is running for the ACC Commission. Thornton and Tommy Valentine, a doctoral student at the University of Georgia, are vying for the District 9 commission seat. That seat is currently held by Commissioner Kelly Girtz, who has announced his intention to run for Mayor in 2018. Businessman Richie Knight announced his run for the mayor's office earlier, as has District 2 Commissioner Harry Sims. He is currently Mayor pro tempore. Antwon Stephens, self-proclaimed "Progressive Conservative," is also running for mayor.
