Full Scholarships Cut for ACC Leisure Services Programs

ACC Government

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department is announcing changes to its scholarship program. According to a release from the department, full scholarships will no longer be available. In March, the Mayor and Commission voted to modify the program, which provides discounts for youth programs for qualifying Clarke County residents.

The changes include scholarship amounts of 25%, 50%, and 75% only. The 100% scholarship no longer exists. Changes also include a $400 annual cap per child. The final change is that those applying must now bring a recent utility bill, IRS Tax Form 1040, and a photo ID.  There are hardship measures in place for those who do not have the necessary paperwork.

Scholarships may be renewed or applied for at any Leisure Services Department facility office and take at least five business days to process.  All scholarships expire June 30 and must be renewed annually.

The changes go into effect July first. Any program paid for before July 1st is still covered.
